Here lies the strategic insight: the future winners of AI may not be the biggest technology companies. They may be those who identify and solve the most important problems — problems that matter to real communities. That is precisely where African innovators can lead.

The Leadership Challenge

Technology alone will not determine Africa's future. Leadership will. Governments, universities, businesses and investors each have a role, and leaders should be asking hard questions now:

3. Develop AI governance alongside innovation. Africa can learn from others' experience. How should data be governed? How should AI be regulated? How do we protect people while encouraging innovation?
